No win, no fee

No win, no fee - What does no win no fee actually mean?

In essence it means that your solicitor and barrister will only be paid if there is a successful outcome for your case be it by settlement or full hearing.

As mentioned in previous articles, the solicitors regulations in Ireland prohibit solicitors from advertising that they will act on a no win no fee basis. Unfortunately it prevents those with genuine cases from finding reputable solicitors who act on a no win no fee basis, as not every firm will act on this basis with some requiring retainers upfront before they engage in a personal injury claim*.

*In contentious business, a solicitor may not calculate fees or other charges as a percentage or proportion of any award or settlement. This statement is made in compliance with Reg.8 of SI 518 of 2002.
